His father's wholesalers extended him credit, and customers reacted positively to his well-known father's name, "T.J." Dillard and his wife, Alexa, stocked the store with name-brand merchandise they had bought at low prices. In the fall of 1963, the Mayer & Schmidt store bought the Pfeifer store.Two other key events occurred in 1964: the company installed its first computer system and opened its first mall store.
