 What was the situation?

gravitas: [noun] high seriousness (as in a person's bearing or in the treatment of a subject).   Clearly, your content, work ethic and intellect are critical - but these are table stakes to make it into executive leadership. They have gravitas, which is to say they have executive weight, a presence that people respect and want to follow.

 So how does one develop gravitas-or teach others how to enhance theirs?I know it might seem strange that these tips all seem to involve the image of a leader and how you might appear to others. It is also translated variously as weight, dignity, and importance and connotes restraint and moral rigor.  The definition of Gravitas may surprise you.

 Who did you need to engage and what was the (positive) outcome? Gravitas was one of the ancient Roman virtues that denoted "seriousness". I’m confident that they don’t want a solemn, serious face brought in to inspire their business or drive growth. Your view matters to them so take the time to think about exactly what it is and be confident in articulating it. They walk into a room and instantly engage without being overbearing.  How will you approach each different situation and how might you deliver a message someone doesn’t want to hear? If you can do those five things, you're be on your way to developing gravitas of your own.There are five traits that anyone with gravitas possesses-all of which apply to both male and female executives.Every great leader has something in common.

 Consider the experience you have acquired that outlines your ability to deliver this. But without gravitas, executives can struggle to lead. I’m not being contrite, I know what they mean and what they want, but what does it really mean in today’s society? Lastly, have the belief in yourself.

See more. But like it or not, a big part of leadership how you show up. As a friend of mine says, a leader without followers is someone taking a walk.  Look the part - I’m not about to outline exactly what type of suit to wear - the point is your first impact and the image you present is important and you can’t make it twice so make the effort.  Based on your experience or on research you have done, what would you do if appointed?
