I do use the extra 2 hitches at the finish to try to cover the mono. The advantage of the FG is with heavy leaders, not needed for the lighter ones where it is most likely to fail. Thanks for all your helpful info.The results of these knot strength tests might surprise you!I only retie the FG knot when I need to replace my leader from getting too frayed up from fish or when in need of going up or down in leader strength.I’ve been using the FG not for a couple of years now with good results. I’ve cast it through the eyes on the rod many, many, many times and have never had the knot come loose. I use swivels most of the time to attach leader.
What if I put some super glue on the knot after it’s finished? Bummer! Only about 1 out of 10 look like yours .The rest look like the leader has “balled up” on itself. Have you compared this knot with using hollow core connection that would be done before going fishing?I am older and my sight and dexterity is not what it used to be.
