Lewis left us no specific information from which we might deduce Seaman's size, but he did remark (6 November 1803) that he had paid $20 for him—half a month's salary for an Army captain—which suggests that either Lewis knew dogs well enough to be qualified to make an intelligent choice, or he got some excellent advice.
