While you don't have to actually watch the rabbits enter the trap, I would imagine you would need to be with-in the render distance for both the rabbit and trap in order for it to have a chance of functioning. They can't only catch 1 cannibal at a time, they require resources to be built and reset and just aren't very effective.Traps are great. The animal trap allows the player to capture rabbits alive, who then can be placed inside a rabbit cage for breeding purposes. Just dont expect the traps to do all the work.If I truly needed defense, I would just build bonfires really close to each other, surrounding my base and keep them lit.Depends on the base layout.
I usually add them between the log trap and happy birthday trap lines, so I can pick the caught ones off with arrows from the safety of the base.
