CheersOther things to consider – Although there are any number of looks that can be achieved from shooting a colour film for photographers who want reliability and dependability there are only a few films that can hold up to different conditions and a variety of exposure types while delivering clean and beautiful results.I’ve often described how I think that people looking for a different “look” from film would be better suited exposing and developing in a different way before they’d see any…I understand personal preferences are subjective, but the colors in some of your photos just seem too “off” to be considered an acceptable result. The jolt of panic was enough to spring me upright in my bed. The new Portra 400 films now have the same or close to the same grain as 400UC which is their best pro 400 film.
Just shot 4 rolls of 400 recently, it’s my go-to all-purpose color negative film and I love it.Unfortunately, most ‘amateur’ films like this one are too contrasty for serious work with high-quality lenses.
Who We Are We are a group of people shooting on wonderful and glorious film in all sizes and all types. I have also used just the plain Fuji 200 along with the Ekta 100 and the difference is barely noticeable.I’m just starting to get into film myself. I was open-minded as to how the images would turn out and wasn’t doing anything specific to elicit some “look” from the images.Interesting on the price – Pro 400H And Portra 400 are basically the same price in Japan. My young, doe-eyed self was happy to capture anything remotely decent. All the Wal-Marts in my area sell 4-packs of C200 and Superia 400 for around $12 so it’s still a bargain (it was a sad day when I went for 800 and they didn’t have it anymore). Before the price increase Pro400h was generally the cheapest professional color film I could buy here in the US. I have not tried many other films, but this film seems like a plenty good film to me. The colors were vibrant and punchy, but not overbearing, and those little dots, the texture… I knew they weren’t pixels, but what were they? Size and weight considerations?I ask myself this question tonight with two weddings in the next two days. Grain is by no means completely absent- it’s there in great enough quantity to render images that have the signature analog look we’re shooting for, but the grain is minimized enough that it never overwhelms the image. Oh no! The rest of the exposures from those first few rolls of Superia exceeded every expectation I’d had for film photography, and launched dreams of infinite possibility within the medium. For wedding photography wedding photographers have to work quickly in very unforgiving light.
I don’t have specific goals in mind other than to accurately represent the scene in front of me and to reduce down through composition any distracting elements. The drumline scene popped with a glorious vibrancy that seemed brighter than memory.
