After helping Dawn raise their three children, Nadine, Roger and Robert, he retired in 1994. Charles loved and adored his six grandchildren unconditionally - Jeff Fontaine, Michael Fontaine, Matthew Wheeler, Sara Andrews, Nathan Wheeler, and Daniel Wheeler. Charles and Dawn were always there for family events and holidays and enjoyed big family dinners. Chuck was born April 28, 1949, in Quincy, a son of Charlie and Rosella (Lawrence) Wheeler. Charles also played semi-pro football in the Ontario Rugby Football Union. The ORFU was the first to adopt the Burnside rules, from which the modern Canadian football code would evolve. Charles played intermediate baseball for the Middleton Cardinals and won the Maritime championship in 1951, a feat that inducted them into the Middleton Sports Heritage Wall of Fame in 1998.
