Chain mail armor has gone without a crafting recipe ever since its infamously impossible fire crafting recipe was removed. Once you have crafted a chain, you need to move the new item to your inventory. But you need 8 iron nuggets in each spot to craft the armor. The resulting item will have 5% more durability left than the original items combined, but any enchantments will be lost. And it's what chains are made of. Why do we need them? Chain is made out of two iron nuggets and one iron ingot, but its blast resistance is the same as the block of iron. Item ID and Name I'm pretty sure the reason chainmail wasn't craftable in development was because there were some things in the game that were weird or didn't make sense. Move the Chain to Inventory.

However, due to the semi-recent addition of iron nuggets, I believe chain mail should be crafted with the traditional armor recipes -- but using iron nuggets. Repairing armor with an anvil will preserve and combine the enchantments.
