I might give the two knots a little garage testing. Trim with 1/16″ of the tag end out (not too close). As mentioned earlier its critical to have the arbor free of grease or oil that might be used to lubricate the reel. The piece of mono can be rather short, 12 to 16″ or a few yards long, whatever the angler feels more comfortable with. I was using a jig bouncing it on the bottom in 170 feet of water with my trusty BV-300 with 30lb braid and a fast taper rod to drive the hook home.

I run the double line through the eye 2x and also 2x for the knot like a double sugeon’s knot and it seems to work very well. For example, test the breaking strength of the line – lets say the line breaks at 20lbs.

Any reel can handle braid if it's spooled correctly. I make two trips to Florida each year to visit/fish with my son. It should like very uniform, tight, and well tied at this point.
But it’s really not as difficult as it seems. I did some testing with the Uni knot going through the eye 3 times vs. 2 times, and although the 3 time approach had the highest single breaking strength, I fount it to be inconsistent… my guess is because I wasn’t getting them to line up properly on the eye (overlapping vs. single-file).Do what the “SMART ANGLERS” are doing and join the Insider Club.The reason the author is having difficultly with getting consistent results with the SD Jam Knot is because he isn’t using a good and consistent technique to tie it. Everytime. This knot will come out perfectly uniform every time once you figure out how to keep it tight. I find this knot wraps the best and works best in the 20-50 lb line classes. Repeat tests and mean results are far sounder test methods.

Mono is cheaper than braid and this works very good when trying to get your braid to the top of the spool for maximum performance. Once the knot is cinched, the braid will be held into place so you can start winding the braid tightly onto the spool.The fruits of the labor.
