We passed the quaint villages of Mount Carey, Montpelier and Shettlewood, getting a first hand view of how the locals live. At a broad bend in the river, we came across a large patch of green lily pads floating on the water. Snakes in Barbados are quite rare. The tour lasted just under an hour and a half. The early settlers introduced the mongoose to the island and these virtually eliminated the local snake population.
