It works much like recipes do by adding certain items together to enchant gear.
The one thing holding me and a friend back from getting it is all the talk about only 1 person getting progression, and multiple issues with backpacks etc. However the system is not as random as one might take it for.

Combat is practically the same, the graphics are extremely similar (the subpar AA as well), and it's even published by the same publisher as those games. Unrelenting combat difficulty even for those antiquated with similar games (the "Dark Souls" is strong with this one) combined with a vast open world filled to the brim with secrets and amazing monsters not unlike Dragon's Dogma stitched together with the fabric of survival games like The Forest. I’m closing in on 50 hours on the PC version without a single issue, even, much less anything game breaking.It's really nostalgic in the best ways possible.Wow! Without a lamp you can scarcely see your character, much less anything in front of you, and a torch will do little to help you. This naturally brings one to the way that The Soroboreans changes Outward’s class structure. If you spend too long there, you can become tainted, corrupted, and then defiled. Often times, its better to simply set up camp and sleep till the morning when the night comes. In fact, I always felt like I was just one decent run away from that oh so important win. I just replied this to someone else, but my first impression of the game was Gothic/Risen as a survival game.
It allows players to organically create a harrowing tale of a quest gone wrong and adds just enough danger to make it feel like you truly got out of that situation by the skin of your teeth.Which is nice after reading that IGN review... (yikes that was a hard read, felt like the dude went in wanting to hate the game and not do any research)Magic in this game gets its own separate paragraph, mostly because its brilliant execution deserves to be talked about on its own. The amount of game breaking bugs is pretty bad for a full release. I personally like the permanent nature of your actions here, you cannot be the master of all in one playthrough, however others may not share this opinion on the matter.

The dungeons feel like a real step up from the base game. It only adds to your story.Excellent summation and analysis, Dark Souls/Dragon Dogma Hybrid in a survival atmosphere is spot on.On the topic of other players, Outward can be played with 1 other friend, online or in split screen (yes, you read that right). Finally a review where they didn't die to the first bandits and give a salty 3/10 combat is bad review.I’ve seen that the console version has issues, but if it’s a matter of platform - that should be specified in these types of posts.The IGN reviewer is just being fucking sour about screwing up and then wanting to claim he “manned up” and beat the game, so he is a big boy and his opinion is fully validated."They didn't pay up to give this a glowing review, and as we are incapable of playing anything that doesn't guide us by the nose and make us feel like a god with no effort. The game seems well optimized and its looks are plenty acceptable.I am glad you liked reading it.

The night is oppressive in Outward. I think they've done a fantastic job, and deserve a good review.Don't discount the bugs, but know that like any developer post launch. Its textures and certain models lack an AAA polish, but considering this is from a studio of about 10 people, I'd much rather the gameplay be stronger over the shiny state of the art graphics.
